Notes and additional requirements: To qualify for admission to the two-year traditional independent program, the applicant must have completed a full residency in General Surgery or Vascular Surgery accredited by either the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada prior to the anticipated start of the training program. It is expected that the applicant will have had some experience on a cardiothoracic service during that training. Technical aptitude, research experience, maturity, integrity, and a genuine interest in pursuing an investigative career in cardiothoracic surgery are sought in ideal residency applicants.
