Pathology is one of the friendliest for non-US IMGs

Pathology, with about 630 residency positions offered is one of the friendliest specialties for IMGs. Around 250 US MDs and 100 US DOs applied to Pathology residency. Pathology was not the main target for some US MDs and DOs and, as a result, around 300 positions were filled by US graduates with around 300 positions left for IMGs. Around 550 IMGs applied to pathology and around 450 had interviews and participated in the Match. 54 US IMGs and 232 non-US IMGs were matched. The highest match rate among all specialties (68% for non-US IMGs) makes pathology top friendliest by the probability of the match for non-US IMGs. The probability of the match for interviewed applicants starts from 45% (35% US IMGs) for candidates with ~200 Step 1 score and increases to near 85% for candidates with Step 1 > 250. Pathology is not too popular among US IMGs, especially among candidates with highs scores. But at the same time, a lot of highly qualified non-US IMGs are looking for pathology residency and enjoy a very high match rate.
