IMG friendly Pathology-anatomic and clinical Residency Programs

Pathology is one of the friendliest for non-US IMGs

Pathology, with about 630 residency positions offered is one of the friendliest specialties for IMGs. Around 300 US MDs and 120 US DOs applied to Pathology residency. Pathology was not the main target for some US MDs and DOs and, as a result, around 350 positions were filled by US graduates with around 250 positions left for IMGs. Around 550 IMGs applied to pathology and around 450 had interviews and participated in the Match. 61 US IMGs and 171 non-US IMGs were matched. Year by year pathology attracts more U.S. graduates and the number of matched non-US IMGs is decreasing. No longer pathology is top friendliest by the probability of the match for non-US IMGs but 36% of filled positions is still high enough to attract IMG applicants. The probability of the match for interviewed applicants starts from 45% (35% US IMGs) for candidates with ~220 Step 2 score and increases to near 85% for candidates with Step 2 > 250. Pathology is not too popular among US IMGs, especially among candidates with highs scores. But at the same time, a lot of highly qualified non-US IMGs are looking for pathology residency and enjoy a high match rate.
