Notes and additional requirements: USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK or COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2 must be passed before beginning residency. Graduation from medical school within the past three years is preferred, with applicants expected to have been actively engaged in medical school, graduate education, residency training, or clinical practice within the past three years. U.S. clinical experience or formal graduate/professional education is strongly preferred but not required. Applicants requiring ECFMG certification for North Dakota medical licensure must obtain certification by February 15. J-1 sponsorship is available; H-1B sponsorship is considered case-by-case, with USMLE Step 3 required by March 31 for H-1B sponsorship. Program signals are an important component of holistic application review.
