Notes and additional requirements:
Notes and additional requirements: The Committee believes that every applicant should reflect a vibrant interest in medicine demonstrated by clinical experiences with direct patient contact and knowledge of New Mexico's health care issues. The intent is to provide the applicant with the opportunity to prove to themselves and to the Committee on Admissions that medicine is the profession in which the individual whole-heartedly wishes to study and work. This volunteer or possible work experience may be in a hospital or clinic setting, or perhaps in a nursing home or hospice environment. The Committee on Admissions requires applicants to submit a minimum of three letters of recommendation, with a maximum of four, from individuals who know them well. These individuals should be chosen carefully by the applicant to honestly evaluate their abilities and their motivation for the practice of medicine. It is suggested that applicants obtain letters from the following: One or more letter(s) from a clinician, such as a nurse or physician with whom you performed your clinical experience One or more letter(s) from a person with whom you worked on a project (research mentor, program director, commanding officer or work supervisor) One or more letter(s) from professors/faculty instructors (Applicants who have been away from degree-granting academic programs for several years may elect to submit letters from individuals other than professors).
