Admission process notes:
To be considered to the School of Medicine MD program, applicants must meet one of the following residency criteria: Be a resident of New Mexico for at least one year at the time of application; Have strong ties to New Mexico; Enrolled members of a US Federal Tribal Sovereign Nation and active duty military members stationed in New Mexico. All applicants who submit a Primary AMCAS application will be invited via email to complete the Secondary Application. Applicants will be allowed two weeks to complete the Secondary Application from the time they are initially invited.
Requirements notes:
The Committee on Admissions requires applicants to submit a minimum of three letters of recommendation, with a maximum of four, from individuals who know them well. It is suggested that applicants obtain letters from the following: One or more letter(s) from a clinician, such as a nurse or physician with whom you performed your clinical experience; One or more letter(s) from a person with whom the applicant worked on a project (research mentor, program director, commanding officer or work supervisor); One or more letter(s) from professors/faculty instructors.
GPA, MCAT notes:
Minimum GPA of a 3.0. Minimum MCAT of a 494. Applicants are generally advised to take the MCAT in the spring of their junior year or that summer prior to their senior year.
Deadlines notes:
The Early Decision Program permits an applicant to file a single application with the medical school of their choice prior to August 1st. All letters of recommendation must be received by Office of Admissions prior to the interview date and/or NO later than December 1st (whichever comes first). Admissions Decisions Sent: Early Decision Program October 1; MD/PhD March 15.
